❤️🔥 Introducing: Burnout Survival Guide
How I recovered from burnout and rebuilt life on my terms - and how you can, too.
Why I’m writing this series
When I shared my raw and personal story with burnout on LinkedIn, I didn’t expect it to blow up. I posted it because burnout was such an isolating experience - even though I know it’s something so many people go through. I wanted someone out there to know they’re not alone. I also wish more people were aware of company leave policies, because taking a 12-week paid medical leave was what saved me when I was at my lowest.
It was terrifying to hit publish. I had to take multiple deep breaths and psych myself up before I shared something so vulnerable with the world.
To my surprise, the post went viral. This is what happened a week later:
I knew burnout was widespread - especially now, with companies doing mass layoffs while posting record profits, AI pressure, constant re-orgs, and relentless performance reviews. But I was still surprised by how deeply my story resonated.
I’ve always believed that words have the power to heal and connect, but seeing the impact of my writing quantified in numbers was eye-opening.
What moved me the most were the responses. So many people messaged me to say my writing made them feel seen. That my story validated what they have been going through. Two weeks after quitting my corporate tech job, I’m finally doing work that feels meaningful. I’ve felt more fulfilled in these two weeks than I did in my last six months in corporate.
But through all these honest conversations, I also noticed something: Burnout brings up a lot of shame, fear, and anxiety:
Shame for feeling like you’ve failed yourself or your team
Fear that you won’t bounce back, or that it’ll happen again at the next job
Anxiety about what to do next, or whether you're even allowed to rest
As I reflected on my own journey, I realized I’ve experienced mini burnouts throughout the last decade of my career. But I always pushed through by chasing the next promotion, job, or achievement. That method worked until it didn’t. Earlier this year, I finally hit a wall and broke down completely.
My most recent burnout forced me to take a 12-week leave from work to reset my environment and value system. That process led me to quit a six-figure job in big tech and finally pursue what I truly care about. (Here's the post where I shared that decision.)
I’m not saying everyone needs to take a sabbatical or quit their job to recover from burnout, but I do believe burnout recovery requires intentional self-work and a practical plan.
Right now, my career path is the most uncertain it’s ever been. Yet, I feel the most grounded and at peace I’ve ever felt.
And I want to help others get here, too.
What to expect from this series
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing a 4-part Burnout Survival Guide: lessons from my own recovery process after 10 years of navigating the corporate hustle.
